With her performances of exacting virtuosity and sensual earthiness, Maria Tegzes' voice has been described as having a "dark and highly emotional...quality" (The Worcester Telegram & Gazette), while being capable of skipping from "ionospheric high hums to a sultry baritone with verve and nerve." (The Boston Globe).
Study with Maria in Italy Summer 2025
I am thrilled to be returning as a member of the voice faculty at the InterHarmony International Music Festival in Acqui Terme, Italy!! Come, study with me during Session 1 (July 1-13, 2025), attend the array of enriching masterclasses, enjoy the amazing variety of concerts, go adventuring on the planned sight-seeing outings. AND, perhaps most exciting of all, make music in this idyllic northern Italian setting.
Like Martha Graham's theory of "Blood Memory," there are forces and types of music that speak to us, without concern for sense or cause - time or place. Something triggers an impulse.
This something is the impetus. It resonates within us, and we are compelled to act. The impetus may deliver us to new terrain - alien and unnerving. Conversely, we may find a world of uncanny familiarity, whether of our time or another.
Therefore, we call ourselves IMPetus, not because we enact such a powerful force. But because we respond to and celebrate it.
Teaching+Nondual Coaching
Studying with Maria was so much more than voice lessons. I learned about how my breath and my body could support my vocal sound, how to approach and navigate different styles of music, and how to be present in the process of making music. Maria brings an incredible depth of feeling and experience to her vocal coaching and that had a big impact on my learning experience.
